On Sunday 16th November 2014, Thien Chi Center organised successfully the Parents’ Workshop and the Family Festival for families of children with learning difficulties in Duc Linh District, Binh Thuan Province. This was the activities last to close the project “The Home Learning Boxes” which was funded by the WWO program/ Saigon Children’s Charity (SCC) in the Grant July 2013. Mr. Thao and Mr. Tien from the Bureau of Education and Training, Ms. Hang and her staff from Thien Chi and Ms. Hien from SCC joined the day with more than 40 families of children who are being supported by the project.

Participants of the Festival                                                   Team-building Activity

“Communication and Life Skills” was the topic of the Festival. This was the advantage opportunity for parents to practise how to teach their child the communication and life skills which are necessary for them to include to the community. The knowledge and skills were slightly transferred through games competition. Parents enthusiastically guided children to achieve tasks which were folding clothes, cooking, transferring the messages, ect. Hence they could feel and learn themselves the best methods to support their children at home. The children also recognised the importance of learning those skills: “I need to know how to cook; so that when parents are not at home, I am not hungry; and when parents come late from work, dinner will be ready for all of us” – one of students said.

The competition – Folding clothes                                    And Working together with vegetables

Our food is ready! Enjoy your meal!                          We did well – Our team has a big reward!

WWO program is proud to become the sponsors of this meaningful project. We appreciate all the works that the Thien Chi’s team has done for children with disabilities. It is our hope that all the children with learning difficulties in Duc Linh, Binh Thuan would get the right supports and will be able to go to schools and early mainstream into the community.
