“Food: 10/10. Atmosphere: 10/10. Activities: 10/10. Memories left: 10++++++”
“I’ll love and cherish the saigonchildren big family forever.”
(From the camp diary of anonymous students at the 2024 saigonchildren Summer Camp)
This year, the Summer Camp was made memorable by 187 university students and alumni from saigonchildren’s Scholarship Programme. All participants, each from diverse backgrounds, gathered, networked, and celebrated their shared moments, while also maintaining and showcasing their individuality with confidence, lifting up the spirit of this year’s main theme – Uniqueness.
Upon the tent building up execution, game challenges were designed to emphasise the main theme. “Treasure hunting” offered well-sighted observation skills, ‘Stream juggling’ required flexibility and tactfulness, ‘Yoga ball balancing’ demanded high-tension teamwork, ‘Ask and answer’ featured unpopular questions from diverse areas of knowledge, and ‘Self-reliance’ rewarded self-effort in trying multi-taste food. Additionally, team activities on the next day, such as making clay piggy banks, helped them practise logical skills and creativity.
The most anticipated part was the campfire at night, where they could sing in unison while running around the fire after an energetic and productive day filled with consecutive games. They also engaged in deep conversations, sharing joyful and emotional moments during the day in the event’s diary.
At the camp, students also had the opportunity to join sharing sessions to boost social skills with donor teams. VISA supported in enriching the understanding of private finance through online interactive games. Meanwhile, the MiTek part served as a real debate, where students showcased their critical thinking and reasoning skills with confidence and respect for uniqueness.
Holding the annual Summer Camp aims to form a solid relationship within our programme’s beneficiary community, whether they have graduated recently or not. Saigonchildren hopes that what they gained at this event will stay forever in their in-depth ‘diary,’ becoming the most inspiring and cherished memories of their youth and beyond.
Last but not least, saigonchildren would like to send a special thank you to the Organising Board, who are or have been, our university scholarship recipients. They all reserve a special place for us, devoting themselves from planning to coordination to make this event a superb success.
