Saigonchildren’s Child Development Scholarship Programme has supported thousands of children, many of whom received scholarships from when they were little children until their university graduation as a mature young adult. This journey of transformation and growth is perhaps most perfectly reflected in Tuan Vu’s story.
Born and raised in a family of 5 – including his parents, older brother, younger sister, and himself – with low income from his parents’ work as farmers, Tuan Vu has faced many financial challenges accessing education.
Saigonchildren was introduced to Vu by his older brother, who had also received a scholarship from saigonchildren. Starting in 11th grade, saigonchildren has accompanied Vu until his graduation from a vocational school in automotive technology.
“The scholarship program supported us with books and tuition fees, creating opportunities and ease for us to go to school.” – Vu shares.
Vu also shares that he is personally so grateful to have met saigonchildren’s brothers and sisters, to talk to everyone, learn new knowledge, gain new experiences, and make life better.
Aside from being a hardworking student, Vu’s years in college were also dynamic as he actively participated in body-building activities, extracurricular activities, student meetings, and saigonchildren’s camping trips. Currently, Vu is pursuing a career as a Personal Trainer and is an exemplar in consistently bettering one’s health day by day.
“Before, my breathing was very weak, like when I’m under pressure or stressed out, I felt short of breath and drained. At that time, by chance, one of my friends asked me to go to the gym and work out for fun. After some time, I noticed massive improvements in my health, better endurance, so I decided to pursue personal training. I think fate brought me to this career.” – Vu shares.
Vu loves personal training, it makes him feel healthier and stronger, more relaxed, and less under pressure. Talking and interacting with the brothers and sisters at the gym also makes him feel happier. Before the Covid-19 outbreak, Vu was a professional Personal Trainer at a gym in District Phu Nhuan.
In addition, Vu also makes a little extra money through his small online business selling nutritious food to those he trains. His main aim is to provide his students with the appropriate nutrition throughout the training process and to create a new source of income for himself.
Vu has yet to have the opportunity to work in the field of his studies – automotive technology. However, he has not stopped learning and cultivating more knowledge from his friend, an expert in the field, accumulating experience for his future plans. He hopes to have the opportunity to work in automotive maintenance at a company in District 2.
“For me, receiving a scholarship brought a lot of meaning. I received an abundance of support, acquired new skills for work and life, found a job and built many connections with experts in the automotive industry. Once again, thank you saigonchildren for accompanying me throughout this journey.”
Vu has many goals he wants to accomplish. However, due to the ongoing worsening Covid-19 situation, Vu is temporarily unemployed; all his plans have to be shelved as he faces some financial difficulties.
