Last month, the LEGO Club, part of the Children’s Special Needs Education programme, officially opened its doors at Thăng Long English and Vocational Training School (District 4). With funding sponsored by the LEGO Foundation, the club operates free of charge for children with special needs, fostering fundamental skills such as social interaction and communication through play-based therapy.
The first 10 members of the club are both current students and non-attendees of our free intervention class. At the opening event on 25th February, these children were introduced to LEGO blocks through the first activity: searching for bricks that matched each team’s ribbon colour in a tray filled with diverse LEGO bricks. Then, each child spent 10 minutes building their toys, either following models or creating freely under the guidance of teachers and parents, and presenting their finished designs to their friends.
The LEGO Club is organised for disadvantaged children with difficulties in social communication, interaction, developmental disorders, or emotional expression aged 4-10. The supervising teacher team will establish a personal routine for each child during their time in the club based on their entrance evaluation test. The club will continue for at least 12 months to support them in improving cognitive, communication, and language skills.
