The story of Hoai Bao

“Without the support of saigonchildren, I doubt I would have been able to graduate from high school and certainly not college”

Bao’s father passed away when he was in first grade, leaving his mother alone in bringing up her two kids. Bao’s mother works as a babysitter to earn money for her family’s survival.

Bao’s elder brother Hoai is a factory worker. Due to his unreliable job and uncertain career path, he’s only able to feed the family which leaves Bao’s tuition fees unpaid.

Despite his family’s financial issues, Bao has always desired to study higher. Bao identified that the only way to change the life of his family is for him to succeed in education. When receiving the offer letter from university, Bao felt both happy and anxious, because he was unable to afford the tuition fee. Bao loaned 30 million VND to pursue his education, which he has been working hard to pay off ever since.

Since Bao’s graduation from the University of Education and Technology, he has secured a job in a production department in District 9. Although his income is not high, he believes that he has overcome many of the biggest challenges and difficulties in his life as well as achieved some success. Bao’s also saved money and is considering buying a motorbike for commuting.

Hoai Bao is so thrilled about his efforts up to date. He is grateful for saigonchildren’s scholarship since the early years of secondary school. This financial support has aided his family with living costs and encouraged him to pursue higher education. “What I appreciate most about saigonchildren is not just them giving me a certain amount of money every semester but also the lessons they taught me through social activities and great support from their staff. Saigonchildren is such a second family for many children in need, including me. I hope that there will be more children supported and motivated to have the opportunity to study and follow their dreams”…
